music takes, the black keys

The new tracks from the Black Keys sound, I dunno, kinda lazy? Boring, even? I'm reminded what my friend Matt said about the progression of The White Stripes: They used to sound like Led Zeppelin through a tin can and now they just sound like Led Zeppelin.

I have complicated feelings about this, because I want musicians to grow and change as artists. And I'm also aware that rock music feeds off youth, discarding artists once they reach a certain point and then feasting off the energy of newcomers.

@elecray7k ahhh, the eternal problem when scrappy indie bands become too relaxed in the studio

@irisjaycomics And, like, too proficient? It feels like what people want is the energy of someone desperately trying to mack up for a lack of experience, and once that flips it's not as good? These new tracks are undeniably better made than what they recorded in a tire factory 15 years ago, but also less interesting.
