I'm about to head to the store to buy ingredients to make my first ice cream and it's pretty astonishing how little I actually need. I'm making BDG's peanut butter and lychee ice cream and I already have most of what I need. Just gotta get milk and lychees basically.

Whisking together scrambled egg and sugar and all I can hear in my head is James Acaster saying "That's right, it's 'sweet egg' flavored."

I got a pot of lychee jam simmering on the stove right now and my apartment smells amazing.

Realizing how ice cream has made is a big moment of cognitive dissonance. On the one hand, it takes some of the joy out of life to realize ice cream is made just by stirring dairy while it's cold.

But at the same time, that opens a whole new world where you realize you can make anything into ice cream.

This is actually the first time I cooked a recipe just for fun because I wanted to try it in a long long time and I'm pretty happy about that.

That turned out alright. Next time I'll add more salt and try chilling the custard overnight first to see if that makes a difference.
