So a group of NPR stations just bought my favorite podcast app, Pocket Casts. Very mixed feelings about this.
I like that:
- nonprofit organizations are getting more active in the space.
I don't like that:
- an app I use that used to not be affiliated with a content producer now is.
I'm TERRIFIED that:
- they made a former Clear Channel executive the CEO
@srol eek, that IS my favorite app
@srol What??!?!?!
I'm really worried that it will become stagnant or bloated with non-relevant feeds. Keeping the podcatcher separate from content producers allowed a trust that I could have access to any content.
Now that it is tied to NPR there isn't a guarantee that non-NPR content will get fetched in a timely manner or that new shows will be listed.
@srol NPR is not even fully nonprofit anymore, I think I heard they have some sponsors other than the US government too...
